MacArthur Foundation calls for collective efforts to Eradicate Poverty in Nigeria

The Africa Director of MacArthur foundation Dayo Olaide, says to Eradicate Poverty in Nigeria, there is a need for collective effort to fight and eradicate corruption in Nigeria.

Dayo stated this in Abuja on Tuesday while featuring in a webinar organised by Signature Communications Limited, producers of Corruption Tori, on the topic “The role of citizens in the Anti-corruption Fight”.

Dayo revealed that between 1999-2018 Nigeria’s budget was about Sixty-three Trillion Naira but in the same period had Nigeria became the poverty capital of the world, lacked good infrastructure and had the highest number of children out of school.

Dayo stated that there is a direct relationship between the level of poverty and corruption in Nigeria.

He said Funds allocated for Healthcare, Agriculture, roads construction and other social infrastructure are diverted, making the ordinary citizen to pay for what the government has already provided for and therefore directly expanding poverty and insecurity in the country.
