A retired police officer ASP Elias Danjuma went over the fence on Tuesday when he said he would not hesitate to make a marriage proposal to DSP Mike Obokwu, a serving police officer. The snag he said was that DSP Mike Obokwu is a man and his marriage offer cannot work.

The retired ASP Danjuma made the hilarious remark at the New Karu Police Area Command where DSP Mike Obokwu received the double award of Anti-Corruption Icon and Anti-Corruption Ambassador.

The Prestigious awards were conferred on DSP Mike Obokwu for his anti-corruption stance in running the New Karu police post, where trade groups, community leaders and transport unions identified him for not misusing his powers by detaining persons frivolously. He was also said to be totally against paying for bail but rather encourages complainants to resolve their differences amicably instead of full-scale litigation. The awards which were conferred on the police officer by a popular television programme, Corruption Tori with the support of MacArthur Foundation attracted excitement from many police officers who thanked the Nasarawa Police Commissioner, Adesina Soyemi for permitting the historic awards to the police officer.

Speaking on how he felt about the award, DSP Mike Obokwu said the award will only encourage him to do even better.

At a time when there is a lack of trust between the public and government institutions like the police force, the award to DSP Mike Obokwu as an Anti-Corruption Icon by Corruption Tori will only help to boost public confidence in the Nigerian Police Force and government in general.
